The mission of Makin’ Music is simple: provide youth with a fun education in the art of music. We hope to share the beauty of music with the youth of Hampton Roads and inspire them to love it as much as we do!

We accomplish this through our week-long day-camp. Our camp has a small camper-to-instructor ratio which allows our experienced, credentialed music teachers to give individual as well as group instruction to the campers. Science has proven that musical training improves brain functionality, verbal memory, and multi-sensory processing skills. Let Makin’ Music Performing Arts Camp kick-start your child's musical training!

  • Credentialed staff who have experience working with youth

  • Small camper-to-instructor ratio which allows for individual attention

  • Free ukulele that students can keep at the end of the week to continue developing their skills

  • Free Makin’ Music t-shirt

  • A thorough curriculum which includes music history, theory, and technique that benefits kids long-term

  • A beautiful outdoor venue which provides a unique educational experience

Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM.  During a typical camp day, participants rotate through five stations: choir, music discovery, ukulele, crafts, and games. The choir station involves learning vocal technique and gaining real choir experience which they will display for family and friends in their performance at the end of the week. At music discovery kids learn music theory and history in a classroom setting and reinforce their knowledge through fun games and activities. At the ukulele station, kids will learn chords and full songs which they’ll be able to perform for family and friends at the end of the week. The crafts station provides a creative way for kids to express what they have learned through music-themed crafts, and the game station gives campers a change of pace from the instructional time and practicing.
